The Baltic shrimp ( Palaemon adspersus , Syn .: Leander adspersus ) is a species of shrimp from the genus of rock shrimp ( Palaemon ) within the family of rock and partner shrimp (Palaemonidae). It is of economic importance for fisheries in the North and Baltic Seas .

The Baltic shrimp is colorless, transparent and has small, dark pigment spots, but is not drawn with transverse lines and stripes like the saw shrimp ( Palaemon serratus ). The abdomen is compressed laterally and between the 3rd and 4th segments it is bent down slightly. Females can be up to 7 cm long, the males are smaller. The rostrum is relatively long and roughly toothed. It has 5–6 dorsal teeth on the top and 2 to 4 ventral teeth on the underside.
distribution
The Baltic shrimp occurs in the Eastern Atlantic and its tributaries. The species is native to the coasts of North and West Ireland , South England , the North and Baltic Seas, as well as the Mediterranean and Black Seas . It is rare on the French English Channel coast and can be found on the coast of Norway up to 60 degrees latitude.
It lives in the upper sublittoral near the coast on soft soils with low vegetation and in river mouths .
