Otites formosa is a species from the family of flies (Ulidiidae).
features
The flies reach a body length of 5 to 10 millimeters. Their bodies are black in color and have a characteristic brightly colored dust. The mesonotum has four black longitudinal stripes that are not pollinated and of which the middle one ends clearly in front of the scutellum . The longitudinal stripes on the side are shorter at the front. The tergites on the abdomen are dusted yellow-gray on the front. This pollination extends backwards like a lug in the middle. The head is red, the lower face, antennae and middle of the forehead are yellow, the back of the head is blackish. A brown stripe runs from the lower edge of the compound eyes to the lower edge of the cheeks. The trunk and antennae are black inside, the palps are yellow. The edge of the forehead is dusted silvery white at the compound eyes. The swinging bulbs ( holders ) are yellow, the legs are black and have yellow knees. On the wings the costal spot has no connection to the brown edge of the cross vein Ta.
Occurrence and way of life
The animals occur in southern Central Europe and are frequent visitors to umbelliferous flowers . The flies are observed from May.
