The Ottensheimer street is a street in the Upper Austrian capital Linz . It runs from Flussgasse at the New Town Hall in the Urfahr district to the Mühlkreisbahn railway crossing at Rudolfstraße or the Urfahrwänd on the B 127 .

history

Since the 16th century the street was called Am Gries, later Alte Ottensheimer Straße, in 1875 Maximilianstraße and since 1921 Ottensheimer Straße as the direction to Ottensheim . Originally the street began on the former Platzl near the old Nibelungen Bridge on the main street , which existed until the current Nibelungen Bridge was built around 1940. In 1975 the houses between Hauptstrasse and Flussgasse, including the Nikolaikirche , which was formerly located here, were demolished in order to build the complex of the New Town Hall. Ottensheimer Strasse now only begins at Flussgasse and with house no.17.

Location and characteristics

The 800 meter long, consistently very narrow road runs in a west-southwest direction from Flussgasse to Urfahrwänd (B 127). There is a pedestrian crossing over Flussgasse and an adjoining walkway to the main street. From Steinmetzplatzl, the wider area open to the Danube between Webergasse and house no. 68, the street is a one-way street out of town. The city-inward counterpart is Obere Donaustraße. The level crossing over the Mühlkreisbahn on the B 127 is only accessible in the direction of the city and is only open on weekdays in the morning. For pedestrians and cyclists there is an underpass under the railway line and the B 127, short sections of Ottensheimer Straße are part of the Danube Cycle Path . Ottensheimer Strasse is the best-preserved ensemble of old smaller houses and former inns in Alt-Urfahr. At Steinmetzplatzl, there is a beach on the Danube.
