The Otter Highlands are a group of peaks and ridges in the East Antarctic Coatsland . They are located at the western end of the Shackleton Range west of Blaiklock Glacier and extend northeast to southwest over a length of 17 miles from Mount Lowe to Wyeth Heights .
They were measured in 1957 by participants in the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) under the direction of British polar explorer Vivian Fuchs . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1972 after the de Havilland Canada DHC-3 "Otter" , which was used for air support on this research trip .
