The Ottersleber Pond (also called Mühlenteich ) is a pond in the Goethepark on the northern edge of the Magdeburg district of Ottersleben .

The pond has a maximum depth of 2.20 m and is classified as a protected biotope . The inflow and outflow of the small body of water is via the Klinke creek , which flows into the east side and leaves the pond on the west side. The water quality of the stream and thus also of the pond is given in this area with a quality class II to III. The pollution, which has already been assessed as critical, is primarily due to the entry of agricultural land and allotment gardens on the upper reaches of the Klinke. A relatively high salt content is also measured.

There is a rain retention basin to the west of the pond. Built in the 1990s, it is operated by the Magdeburg Municipal Wastewater Company (SAM) and is used to collect rainwater from the surrounding streets and the new residential areas of Ottersleben. The bank was planted with reeds and designed to be natural, so that the impression of another pond was created. If the water level is too high, there is an overflow to the otter liver pond.

The pond is leased from the local fishing club. In winter, the pond is often used for ice skating.

Roach , carp , tench , pike and perch live in the pond . Also newts , pond frogs and toads belong to the fauna of the Ottersleber pond. Bats can be seen on summer nights . Among the birds dominate pond ducks , coots and mallards . Swans are also occasionally seen.

In the grassy bank area, the frequent bank-typical plant communities are missing. On the east bank there are some plane trees , willows and various bushes.

history

The pond was first mentioned in 1563. There was a water mill on the bank . It is believed that the pond was artificially created for their purpose. Until 1835 the Müller Beeker used the pond as a water reservoir. He then sold his rights for 800 thalers to the factory owners Böckelmann and Köhne . They took water from the latch and fed it to a well in their factory yard. In the 1930s, a piping of the latch and opens here in the catch from done Amtsgarten Ottersleben coming spring digging . The mill was later shut down. The factory was also abandoned in the 1930s / 1940s. The demolition of the empty mill building did not take place until the 1970s. In this decade there were also plans to transform the Ottersleber pond into an outdoor pool. For this purpose, an enlargement of the pond was intended. With the deforestation of some old willow trees, construction work began, but was then stopped.

The pond was later used as a rearing pond for carp and is now used for fishing. The environment is designed like a park.

The nearby Goethepark housing estate was built in the early 1990s .
