Ottilie Bercht

Ottilie Marie Bercht , b. Ruppel, (born September 10, 1856 in Hamburg , † May 3, 1913 in Dresden ) was a German writer .

Life

She was born in Hamburg as the daughter of the Dresden businessman Anton Maximilian Ruppel. When she was seven years old, her father passed away. Together with her mother, Ruppel moved to Dresden, where she attended the Royal Conservatory and trained as a pianist and teacher. She married the pianist Bercht, who later became the director of the Conservatory's opera school, and studied singing with Eduard E. Mann . She performed as a concert and oratorio singer and taught piano and singing to students. When an illness abruptly ended her singing career, she turned to writing. Her first story was published in 1909 under the title Der Hungerprotz . Bercht also wrote jokes and comedies.
