The Otto Nuschke Plaque , also known as the Otto Nuschke Medal of Honor, was an award from the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1958. They were awarded by decision of the presidium of the main board of the CDU in the GDR to deserving, long-standing Christian democrats and also to personalities who did not belong to the CDU in the GDR. The plaque shows the Nuschke head sculpted by Bruno Eyermann (1888–1961) , which is shown with glasses in side profile. On the left side of the head portrait are the first and last names of the German politician and on the right side the dates of his life "* 1883 + 1957". On the other side of the round medal was the party signet »CDU«, in which a capital »U« surrounds the two letters »CD« placed one above the other and the peace dove with the inscription "EX ORIENTE PAX" ("From the east comes the Friede ”, a modification of Ex oriente lux ) is crowned, as shown in a raised manner in other CDU medals.

The newly donated Otto Nuschke plaque , around 71 millimeters in diameter, was sent to Walter Ulbricht (1893–1973) by then CDU General Secretary Gerald Götting on December 13, 1958, and received a letter of thanks from the SED politician.

The bronze medal included a certificate and a box made of blue-colored material. The personalities who were awarded the Otto Nuschke plaque were published on an "honor board" in the monthly CDU magazine UnionShare mit .

Honored with the plaque (selection)

The personalities awarded the Otto Nuschke plaque included:

On June 26, 1973, the main board of the Christian-Democratic Union of Germany decided to award the "Otto Nuschke plaque" annually on the occasion of Nuschke's birthday and the main board members were entitled to propose personalities to be honored. This went hand in hand with a change in the design of this badge of honor. The plaque was made rectangular and the inscription "Hauptvorstand der CDU" was noted on the back. The material continued to consist of bronze and showed " Otto Nuschke's head profile" on the front with the dates of his life "1883-1957", but without glasses. The award had to be given "by the chairman of the CDU at an event of the presidium of the main board" and was presented in this form for the first time to the CDU politician Luitpold Steidle.

The Otto Nuschke badge of the CDU is to be distinguished from the Otto Nuschke badge of honor .
