Otto Amann (Major General)

Otto Amann (born January 11, 1892 , † October 26, 1958 ) was a major general in the German Wehrmacht in World War II .

Life

After attending school, Amann completed an officer training course and took part in the First World War. After the end of the war he was accepted into the newly established Reichswehr on January 19, 1919 and was commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 62nd Infantry Regiment from October 15, 1935 to November 24, 1938, where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 1, 1937 . He was then commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 85th Infantry Regiment between November 24, 1938 and March 1, 1939 and then remained detached to the 85th Infantry Regiment before he was in command of the 1st Battalion from August 26, 1939 to January 4, 1940 Battalion of the 282nd Infantry Regiment was. He was then briefly commander of the 46th Infantry Replacement Regiment from January 4 to 23, 1940 and commander of the 10th Infantry Replacement Regiment between January 23, 1940 and July 5, 1941, and as such was promoted to colonel on February 1, 1940 .

Amann was then from July 5, 1941 to September 8, 1942 commander of the 593rd Infantry Regiment and was then between September 8, 1942 and May 13, 1943 in a reserve position, before he was from May 13 to August 26 In 1943 he was in command of the 7th Reserve Grenadier Regiment. During a subsequent reserve position from August 26, 1943 to May 1, 1944, he was promoted to major general on December 1, 1943 and then acted as city commander of Regensburg from May 1, 1944 until the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht on May 8, 1945 . As such he was taken prisoner of war , from which he was released in 1947.
