Otto Binz

Otto Binz (born June 6, 1869 in Lahr / Black Forest ; † July 18, 1955 in Detmold ) was a nationally known painter and lithographer in Detmold.

life and work

Otto Binz was born on June 6, 1869 as the son of a gardener owner in Lahr in the west of Baden-Württemberg . After attending school, he completed a four-year apprenticeship in lithography . In 1889 he successfully applied for a job as a lithographer at the Lithografische Kunstanstalt Gebr. Klingenberg in Detmold . In the same year he began his two-year military service with Infantry Regiment No. 55 in Detmold. He then worked for a short time at the Otto Bachmann printing company in Bad Saulgau and returned to Detmold in 1893. He then worked at Klingenberg for 40 years until he retired in 1933. Otto Binz died in Detmold in 1955 and was buried there.

In addition to his professional activity as a lithographer, Binz worked as a freelance artist. He created numerous landscape paintings in oil , pastel and watercolor techniques . He looked for his motifs mainly in the vicinity of Detmold and his works were already very popular during his lifetime. Even Prince Leopold IV of Lippe was among the buyers of his paintings. In 1916 Otto Binz was awarded the Princely Lippe Order for Art and Science 3rd Class from Leopold IV.
