Otto Cordes

Otto Cordes (born August 31, 1905 in Magdeburg , † December 24, 1970 in São Paulo ) was a German swimmer and water polo player.

At the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam he was Olympic champion with the German water polo team , four years later he won the silver medal in water polo again at the Los Angeles Games . The basis of the German national water polo team was his home club SC Hellas Magdeburg .

In 1939, after being transferred by his employer, he moved to Brazil , where he stayed for the first time after the outbreak of World War II . His son Burkhard Cordes took part in two Olympic sailing regattas under the Brazilian flag and won a bronze medal in 1968.
