Otto Engels

Otto Engels (born April 26, 1875 in Düsseldorf-Holthausen , † June 18, 1960 in Speyer ) was a German agricultural chemist .

Life

Engels, son of a farmer, studied natural sciences in Bonn and Würzburg. In 1900 he was at the University of Wroclaw with a dissertation on formaldehyde doctorate . After working at the agricultural research stations in Breslau and Marburg, he joined the agricultural research station in Speyer in 1904 as a scientific assistant . In 1928 he was appointed deputy director and in 1939 director of this station. He only retired in 1948 at the age of 73.

Engels, who was awarded the title of professor in 1926, mainly dealt with chemical-analytical work in the fields of soil science , plant nutrition and animal feed science . He is the author of several books and has published almost 1,000 articles in scientific and practical journals.

He was a member of the Landsmannschaft Saxo-Makaria Würzburg , today's Landsmannschaft Alemannia Makaria .
