Otto Foit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Otto Foit (* 1947 in Detmold ) is a German hospital manager and consultant in the healthcare industry. He ran various large clinics, including the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia in Bad Oeynhausen .

Live and act

Otto Foit studied economics in Bochum, Munich and Wuppertal. He received his doctorate as Dr. rer. oec. and after several years of research and teaching work as a scientific assistant at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, he became the personal advisor and office manager of the City Director of Wuppertal.

Before he took over the management of the Detmold Hospital (Lippe district) in 1988, he was acting administrative director of the clinics in the city of Wuppertal. At the beginning of 1996 he became managing director of the Heart and Diabetes Center North Rhine-Westphalia (HDZ NRW) in Bad Oeynhausen , which he headed until he retired in 2010.

Under Foit's leadership, the HDZ, which is assigned to the Bochum University Hospital, developed into the largest heart center in Europe with around 6,000 heart operations annually and achieved a top position in the field of heart transplantation and artificial heart implantation. The HDZ received three consecutive awards for the clinic as “Selected Location” as part of the nationwide competition “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” organized by the “Germany - Land of Ideas” initiative in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Significant USPs were u. a.

  • the establishment of a comfort care station "Tuscany" (1997);
  • the establishment of an institute for applied telemedicine (2003),
  • the new building of a clinic for congenital heart defects (2000) with a Ronald McDonald parental home (architect Frank O. Gehry) and with a special care concept, which was presented as a worldwide project under the motto "High Tech and Human Warmth" at EXPO 2000;
  • the conclusion of a cooperation agreement with the German Handball Federation (DHB) as the official partner of the DHB for cardiology-internal support (2002);
  • the expansion of the cryolab and tissue bank activities (2009);
  • the production and distribution (2002) of radiopharmaceuticals
  • the presentation of the hospital as a museum art forum with exhibitions and events for the internal and external public.

This good reputation led u. a. the Indonesian President Suharto, the Russian-Ukrainian cardiac surgeon Nikolai Michailowitsch Amossow and the former Federal President Johannes Rau for treatment in the HDZ NRW. The HDZ maintains internationality through numerous collaborations with foreign clinics and frequent presence at large international trade fairs and events, etc. a. in Dubai, Tokyo and Jakarta and employs staff from around 30 countries.

In the focus of the nationwide public, Foit stood primarily as an association representative for the hospital sector in the Association of Municipal Employers' Associations (VKA) . In this function he was a long-time negotiator in the collective bargaining disputes with Ver.di over the hospital-specific collective agreement TVöD-K. In the summer of 2006, he led employers 'negotiations with the Marburger Bund about the first doctor-specific collective bargaining agreement for around 70,000 doctors in around 700 municipal hospitals, which was linked to the 2006 doctors' strike in Germany .
