Otto Frederick Schupphaus

Otto Frederick Schupphaus (born March 20, 1863 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † November 7, 1895 in New York City , actually Otto Friedrich Schüpphaus ) was an American playwright .

Life

Schupphaus emigrated to the USA at an early age. He was unmarried and remained childless until his death. An obituary in the New York Times dated November 8, 1895 mentions a career as a newspaper reporter and as "Chief Clerk in Justice Goetting's Court" (chief secretary of the court). Otto Schupp house was after this report, only 30 years old and died in Liberty (New York) to exhaustion .

In the USA he wrote "The Plutocrat". The play in five acts was published in New York in 1892 by A. Lovell & Co. It was frequently reissued (last edition in 2010 as paperback by Nabu Press). He dedicated the book to his "esteemed friend" William Walton, President of the Brooklyn Press Club at the time. The Plutocrat is in the Library of Congress and was reissued by it.
