Otto Gerlach (physician)
August Otto Gerlach (born October 7, 1866 in Niedersachswerfen , † April 21, 1914 in Ilfeld ) was a German country doctor in Thuringia .
As the son of a consistorial councilor and superintendent , he received home tuition from his father for the first few years before attending the Ilfeld convent school from 1878 . After graduating from high school in 1886, he studied medicine at the universities in Halle , Göttingen and Berlin . He performed his military service in 1888 with the 2nd Kurhessian Infantry Regiment No. 82 in Göttingen, where he had joined the student union and later fraternity of Holzminda in 1887 . In 1890 he got his degree and doctorate at the University of Halle for Dr. med. with a dissertation on the relationship between constitutional syphilis and tabes dorsalis and progressive paralysis .
From 1893 to 1906 he worked as a doctor and medical adviser in Lower Saxony, then in Ilfeld until his death in 1914. From 1902 he was the royal district doctor for the Ilfeld district .
