Foundation of the insurance broker Jauch & Hübener

Hübener, son of lawyer Otto Hübener learned before the First World War in London the merchant and captain d. Res. Walter Jauch and with him, having returned from the war as a reserve lieutenant , founded the insurance broker and reinsurance broker company Jauch & Hübener in Hamburg in 1919 . Jauch & Hübener soon became the most important insurance and reinsurance brokers on the continent.

Connections to resistance

Jauch & Hübener had already been assigned a representative of the State Security Service at the beginning of the Nazi era because Nazi circles had doubts about their political reliability. Hübener himself had been arrested by the Gestapo as early as 1934 as part of the " Röhm Putsch " . After the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , he was interrogated several times without result. The investigation also looked at the relationship between Jauch & Hübener and the military resistance. Walter Jauch's cousin by marriage was Hans Oster , major general and chief of staff of the military defense under Admiral Canaris . Via this, Jauch & Hübener had contact with his direct colleague Hans von Dohnanyi , the u. a. financial transactions with Jauch & Hübener were accused.

execution

Hübener was arrested in Hamburg in 1945. On April 7, 1945, Hans von Dohnanyi was executed in Sachsenhausen concentration camp . Canaris, Oster and the theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer were executed on April 9, 1945 in the Flossenbürg concentration camp . Hübener was executed in Berlin on April 21 or 23, 1945 without a trial.
