Otto Kery

Otto Kery (born May 19, 1923 in Güssing , Austria ; † February 19, 2006 in Eisenstadt , Austria) was an Austrian theater director, director and actor.

Life

Otto Kery came from a Christian-conservative family in Burgenland, which at that time belonged to Hungary . His father Sándor Kéry, who came from the Hungarian nobility, was the municipal secretary in Mannersdorf . His brother was Theodor Kery , the former governor of Burgenland.

After returning from captivity, Otto Kery studied drama in Vienna . In the post-war period of the late 1940s, Kery founded the Burgenland State Theater . Until the dissolution of the theater in 1972, he was the initiator of more than 5,000 performances. He himself appeared on stage in 3,000 performances.

From 1972 until his retirement in 1988 Otto Kery worked in the cultural department of the Burgenland provincial government. Here he laid the foundation for the later festival in Burgenland and today's summer theater in Burgenland with open-air performances at Schlaining Castle and Forchtenstein Castle .

He was buried in the city cemetery (grave number 1035) in Eisenstadt.
