Otto Klung

Otto Klung (born February 26, 1893 in Bieberswalde (now Polish Liwa near Miłomłyn ), Osterode district in East Prussia , † May 26, 1968 in Berlin ) was a Berlin media merchant.

The trained mechanical engineer and graduate engineer founded the main company for industries together with August Stauch and Curt Stille in 1921 . This company includes Vox-Schallplatten und sprachmaschinen AG (1922), the “ Berliner Funkstunde ” (1923) for broadcasting radio programs and the “Vox-Vertrieb AG for radio accessories” in Viktoriastraße , Berlin. The head office was in the Vox house at Potsdamer Strasse 39 A in Berlin. A subsidiary was founded in the USA around 1925, but this was dissolved in 1927. In the first half of 1929, Vox had to file for bankruptcy.

In 1928 Klung opened a radio and record shop in Berlin. Around 1941 he acquired the Hili film theater in Lichterfelde. He achieved financial success, especially after the Second World War. Otto Klung's marriage remained childless. All his life he is said to have regretted that he did not have the opportunity to complete a further scientific degree that would have enabled him to actively shape progress in science and society.

In 1972, from his legacy, the Otto Klung Foundation was established at the Free University of Berlin with the stipulation that the Otto Klung Prize, endowed with DM 30,000, should be awarded annually to outstanding German scientists who have not yet passed the age of 40 should.
