Otto Kopp (politician)

Otto Kopp (born January 31, 1903 in St. Gallen , † August 1, 1972 in Liestal ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Kopp attended schools in St. Gallen and then the teachers' seminar in Schiers . From 1922 to 1947 he was a primary school teacher in Zeglingen , Gelterkinden and Liestal. He was a supporter of Silvio Gesell's free economics .

As a critic of the official adjustment course in World War II, Kopp lost a defamation process against the Basel police chief, but was then elected to the government as a moral winner on the SP list in 1947.

From 1947 to 1953 he worked as finance and from 1953 to 1959 as education director (from 1948 as a non-party ). He made a special contribution to the Tax Act in 1952, the Scholarship Act in 1954 and the establishment of progymnasial departments in secondary schools.
