Otto Löwenstein (lawyer)

Otto Löwenstein (born October 9, 1833 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † September 11, 1909 in Leipzig ) was a Senate President at the Imperial Court .

Life

His father was the respected Frankfurt doctor Jakob Samuel Löwenstein (1803–1868). In 1857 he became a court assessor. In 1861 Löwenstein became district judge in Spremberg . In 1868 he was transferred to his hometown. In 1872 he was promoted to appellate judge in Hamm. In 1873 he moved into the Prussian House of Representatives for the National Liberals . From 1877 to 1879 he headed the Justice Commission of the House of Representatives. In 1879 he became president of the district court in Bielefeld. In 1884 he was appointed to the Imperial Court. In 1896 he was appointed President of the Senate. First he sat before the 2nd Criminal Senate , then the 5th Civil Senate . In 1897 Otto Löwenstein was held against his Jewish descent at a hearing in the Imperial Court. In 1907 he retired.
