Otto Leverkus
Otto Karl Hermann Leverkus (born April 11, 1856 in Wermelskirchen , † October 11, 1934 in Wiesbaden ) was a German chemical entrepreneur.
Life
Otto Leverkus was born as the son of the chemical entrepreneur Carl Leverkus , who gave the city of Leverkusen its name . After leaving school, he first acquired his chemical knowledge at the Fresenius Laboratory in Wiesbaden, before going to the University of Strasbourg to study chemistry . Here he became a member of the Corps Suevia in 1880 . Later, in 1894, he was also awarded the Rhenania Corps Ribbon . In 1883 he joined the company of the Rheinische Ultramarin- und Alizarinfabrik family owned by Dr. Carl Leverkus & Sons a. After the death of his father, he and his brothers merged 14 of the 19 ultramarine factories operated in Germany, including his own company, to form Vereinigte Ultramarinfabriken AG vorm. Leverkus, Zeltner and Consorten . In the newly created stock corporation he became chairman of the supervisory board. Between 1891 and 1917 the Leverkusen plant was transferred to Friedr. Bayer & Co. sold.
