Otto Malfeld

Otto Malfeld (* 1921 in Bad König im Odenwald; † February 24, 2013 in Wetzlar ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Political life

Malfeld joined the SPD in 1956. Before entering full-time politics, he worked for the Leitz company in Wetzlar. Before Malfeld joined the magistrate as a full-time city councilor in 1965, he was already active as a city councilor and parliamentary group leader of the SPD and acted as the head of the city council. From 1972 to 1977 he was mayor of Wetzlar. Under his leadership, Wetzlar organized the Hessentag for the first time in 1975 .

During the time of the city of Lahn (January 1, 1977 to July 31, 1979) Malfeld volunteered again, moved into the city parliament and took over the chairmanship of the SPD's city council. Malfeld was a member of the district council of the Wetzlar district from 1973 to 1976. In addition, from 1979 to 1981 he also chaired the district council of the Lahn-Dill district .

Private life

Since his retirement, Malfeld has dealt with the poetry of Limericks . He wrote about 6000 of these poems.

Awards

In 1980 he received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany. On his 90th birthday, District Administrator Wolfgang Schuster awarded Otto Malfeld the Willy Brandt Medal . With that he moved up into the circle of men and women who have made a special contribution to social democracy.

Malfeld was honorary chairman of the SPD Wetzlar and honorary senator of the Wetzlar Carnival Society.
