Otto Pjeta

Otto Pjeta (born April 26, 1949 ) is an Austrian health politician and general practitioner.

Live and act

Pjeta grew up in Steinhaus in the Wels-Land district, where his father worked as a community doctor. He completed his medical studies at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna . Even during his studies he was involved in university politics.

From 1978 to 2012 Pjeta was a community doctor in Steinerkirchen an der Traun in the Wels-Land district , where he is an honorary citizen. In 1989 he was elected President of the Upper Austrian Medical Association, which he headed for 17 years. Between 1999 and 2003 Pjeta was President of the Austrian Medical Association . In these functions, he pointed out that there was a risk of a shortage of doctors if health policies did not improve conditions and called for more support for rural doctors. In 2002 Pjeta was also elected President of the Federal Committee of the Chambers of Liberal Professions.

In 2011 Pjeta received the Great Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria .

Together with other general practitioners, he founded the "General Practice Initiative!" as an extra-parliamentary protest movement that advocates the concerns of general practitioners and general practitioners.

Pjeta is married to Ulrike Pjeta and has three children.
