Otto Steinhoff

Otto Steinhoff (* 13. May 1873 to house Ahse in Soest , † 3. November 1931 ) was a German engineer and railway - Manager .

Life

Steinhoff studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Hanover from 1894 to 1899 , where he was a member of the Corps Hannovera . He completed his further training at the Prussian railway administration, but retired from the civil service after the 2nd state examination or the subsequent appointment as government builder ( Assessor ) and took over the management of the Ruhr-Lippe-Kleinbahnen . During the First World War he was used in the organization of the Polish light rail network.

After the war he became general director of the Halberstadt-Blankenburg railway company, which operated several railway lines in the Blankenburg area . Several rationalization measures were taken under his leadership, including the conversion of the Rübelandbahn from gear drive to adhesion operation through the use of new locomotives. Especially those of Borsig developed on Steinhoff's operation "class of animals" , particularly powerful heavy tank locomotives the wheel arrangement 1'E1 ', improved the efficiency of HBE in heavy mining traffic considerably.
