Otto Wangemann

Otto Wangemann (born January 9, 1848 in Loitz ; † February 25, 1914 in Charlottenburg ) was a German organist , composer , musicologist and music teacher .

Life

Otto Wangemann, son of an organist, was a student of the composition teacher Friedrich Kiel . In 1871 he worked as an organist and singing teacher at the grammar school in Treptow an der Tollense . From 1878 he worked as a cantor in Demmin at the St. Bartholomew Church . In 1879 he took over the editing of the magazine “Der Organist” and in the following year the management of the magazine “Die Tonkunst”. In 1884 he became organist at the St. Nikolai Church in Berlin-Spandau and in 1886 at the Luisenkirche in Berlin-Charlottenburg . In Berlin he worked as a singing teacher at several higher educational institutions. In 1894 he received the title of professor. After his death he was buried in the Luisenfriedhof II in Charlottenburg.

Wangemann composed various piano and organ pieces, choirs and songs. He was best known for his musicological writings.
