Otto Weitkus

Otto Weitkus (born August 30, 1932 in Arendsee ) is a former German party and economic functionary ( SED ). From 1981 to 1984 he was President of the Chamber for Foreign Trade of the GDR .

Life

After attending primary school, Weitkus completed a commercial apprenticeship and became a wholesale trader. He completed his studies with a degree in economics and was later awarded a Dr. rer. oec. PhD.

He became a member of the SED and was from 1965 to May 1967 as a trade council head of the GDR trade agency in Ceylon . He then worked at the Institute for Social Sciences . From 1973 he was secretary and from January 26, 1974 to January 24, 1981 first secretary of the SED district leadership for foreign trade (successor to Heinz Mainusch).

From February 24, 1981 to 1984 he was President of the Chamber for Foreign Trade of the GDR (successor to the late Rudolf Murgott ).
