Ottomar Weymann
Ottomar Paul Erhardt Weymann (* July 17, 1853 in Flatow , West Prussia ; † April 24, 1909 in Strasbourg in Alsace ) was an imperial technical railway assistant, technical draftsman and a German painter . He became known for his utility painting , especially for his work for the Schlaraffia association and the depiction of the Strasbourg cathedral .
Life
Born in Flatow , West Prussia, the son of confectioner Heinrich Weymann, he studied art in Düsseldorf . The marriage to Bertha Fanny Eppel (* March 18, 1855, † in Berlin) had three children: Fritz Weymann (* May 8, 1875, † November 4, 1944), Berta Weymann and Georg Weymann.
He was ore and chief Schlaraffe of a local Schlaraffia association , which still maintains his tomb in Strasbourg today. His knight title was "Leonardo da Vinci".
On December 21, 1890 in Friedrichsruhe, together with other representatives of Strasbourg, he handed over an address of homage to Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , whom the German people in Alsace-Lorraine particularly admired.
Ottomar Weymann was a knight of the Prussian Order of the Crown .
Works
As a draftsman he illustrated z. B. the Alsatian legend "The giant toy" and sketched the Strasbourg cathedral; the drawing is still sold as a postcard in Strasbourg today.
As a painter and poet, the technical draftsman left behind a large number of drawings and verses for all sorts of occasions:
