Ovostar Union (WSE: OVO) is a Ukrainian group of companies in the agricultural and food sector, a leading producer of eggs and egg products in Ukraine. Business areas are the production, distribution, processing and sale of eggs, egg products and oil seeds. The group is one of the largest suppliers of eggs and egg products in Europe.

The vertically integrated production chain includes a hatchery, rearing and laying farms, liquid egg production and feed mills. The operating facilities are concentrated in the Kiev and Cherkassy area.

Customers include Nestlé , McDonald’s and international food retail chains such as the Metro Group , Auchan and Billa (Rewe Group).

The group's listed holding company is based in the Netherlands for tax reasons . Its majority shareholder, Prime One Capital Limited, is based in Cyprus .

Ovostar Union exports products to more than 55 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The company's products are known under the Jasenswit and Ovostar brands. In 2017, a Ukrainian company Jasenswit received approval for the first time to export eggs to the EU.

criticism

In March 2020, the ZDF reported that the company Ovostar Union “keeps tens of thousands of hens in battery cages under cruel conditions”. The transmitted and tested by ZDF footage came from a poultry factory in the village Boryssiw ( Борисів ) in Vasylkiv . It was created at the end of 2019 and came from the Ukrainian animal welfare organization Open Cages Ukraine .
