history

Finds from the Mycenaean period can already be found on the island . Other remains date from the early Byzantine period , the Second Venetian rule and the Ottoman period . At the highest point there is a castle with a length of 120 m and a width of 50 m. Only the north, east and west sides were fortified, as the terrain slopes steeply in the south. The north wall from the 17th or 18th century is particularly well preserved and probably dates from the Venetian period. The west and east walls are in poor condition and date from the early Byzantine period. Sections of the wall from the Mycenaean period have also been preserved. Several gates of the fortification have been preserved. Several cisterns were found inside.

Today there are fish farms south of the island .
