Ovronnaz
Ovronnaz is a small holiday and health resort in the French-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland . Politically it belongs to the municipality of Leytron , near Martigny . Ovronnaz has a small skiing and hiking area as well as a thermal bath .
geography
The village is located on the south side of the Bernese Alps , on a south-facing sun terrace above the Rhone Valley , at an altitude of 1,330 meters. The village is surrounded by the peaks of the Grand Chavalard , the Petit and Grand Muveran and the Haut de Cry .
history
Around 1900 Ovronnaz was just a mountain hut that was connected to Leytron in the Rhone Valley by a mule track. The first hotel was built in 1914. Over time, the people in the valley built more and more chalets for the summer, in a very loose, scattered construction, separated by larger groups of trees. This was also retained in today's "station", which is distributed on a high plateau inclined to the southwest. The first ski lift was built in 1955. Ovronnaz did not become the actual holiday resort until the 1960s with the sale of plots of land to non-residents and the construction of apartment houses.
