Career
Owen Jones attended the public schools of his home country and then studied at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . After a subsequent law degree in Philadelphia and his admission as a lawyer in 1842, he began to work in Ardmore in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .
In the congressional elections of 1856 Jones was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Cadwalader on March 4, 1857 . While serving as a congressman, Jones chaired the State Department's spending control committee.
At the beginning of the Civil War, Owen Jones put together a cavalry company that was part of the Union Army . Until January 1863 he took part in the war as a volunteer officer. By the time he left military service, he had made it to the rank of colonel. After that he practiced as a lawyer again. He died on December 25, 1878 near Ardmore and was buried in Philadelphia.
