Owen Moore (1914)

Owen Moore (born December 12, 1886 in County Meath , Ireland , † June 9, 1939 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American actor of Irish descent.

Life

Like his brothers Tom (1883–1955) and Matt Moore (1888–1960), Owen Moore was a busy actor in the silent film era. At the age of 11 he came to the USA with his family from Ireland . Not least because of his good looks, he was discovered for the theater and from 1908 also for the film. He was employed at the Biograph Company by David Wark Griffith, among others, in his early works.

Owen met Mary Pickford , who was on her way to becoming a star. They secretly married in 1911 and made several films together, including James Kirkwood's Cinderella and Mistress Nell . In 1920 the couple divorced and Pickford married Douglas Fairbanks . After that, Owen formed a couple with actress Kathleen Perry both privately and in some films until his death in 1939 . With the beginning of the sound film era, Owen Moore's popularity declined. He was also a talented singer, but as a star he was now too old for musicals. Therefore he was mainly seen only as a supporting actor. In his last film, A Star Goes on , he played a film director in 1937.

The three Moore brothers appeared together in a film: Side Step (1928). The mother of the three brothers was also an actress, a character actress. However, she ended her career in 1915 and returned to Ireland . Two other siblings, Mary and Joe, were also actors, but they died early.

Owen Moore died of a heart attack at the age of only 52. On the Walk of Fame in Hollywood , Owen Moore, who has acted in almost 300 films, has been immortalized with a star (6725 Hollywood Boulevard).
