His brother Joe, who died of a heart attack in 1926, and his sister Mary, who died of flu in 1919, were also film actors.

Between 1908 and 1954 Moore appeared in almost 200 films, and towards the end of his life he also took on a number of television roles. From 1946 until a year before his death he returned in front of the camera, but in most cases had to be content with small supporting roles.

Moore was married three times: From 1914 to the divorce in 1920 with actress Alice Joyce , the marriage had a daughter; from 1921 to 1924 with the French actress Renée Adorée ; and from 1931 until his death with the actress Elinor Merry (1906–1991), from this marriage there was again a child.
