action
The father joins the Northern Army in the American Civil War . Meanwhile, in the vicinity of his house, looting Confederates are surprised and dispersed by a troop of Union soldiers. One of them reaches the father's house, where he is discovered by his youngest daughter. Desperate, he asks them for help. Despite her prejudices, she hides him by the well and even leads the search party on the wrong track. Meanwhile, the girl's father is assigned a courier service to take him behind the enemy lines. When he is discovered, he can save himself injured to his home. The older daughter rushes to get the doctor while her little sister barricades the door. When the Confederate search party, led by the soldier previously rescued by his daughter, stands in front of his room, the father burns the secret papers. The leader of the squad enters the room, and since he realizes that the papers he is looking for have been destroyed, he wants to kill the father. The daughter, in whom he recognizes his savior, courageously opposes him. So he pretends to his comrades that the enemy soldier is dead and the documents destroyed, and the squad withdraws.
