W. Chrystie Miller
William Chrystie Miller (born August 10, 1843 in Dayton , Ohio ; died September 23, 1922 in New York , New York ) was an American actor of the silent film era . He played in more than 130 films between 1908 and 1914.
Career
Little is known about W. Chrystie Miller's pre-film life. He was initially a stage actor, from August to November 1908 he gave in 87 performances at the Garden Theater on Madison Avenue on New York's Broadway in Ferenc Molnár's The Devil (Hungarian original Az ördög , German Der Teufel , 1907).
It wasn't until 1908, at the age of 65, that Miller joined the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company , where he played a supporting role in The Zulu's Heart . By 1914 he starred in more than 130 films, almost exclusively directed by David Wark Griffith . As one of the oldest actors in this medium, his nickname with the audience was The Grand Old Man of the Photodrama . His last film was Judith von Bethulien .
Miller most recently lived at the Actors' Fund Home in Staten Island , New York City . He died on September 23, 1922 at the age of 79.
