The Wheat King (Original title: A Corner in Wheat ) is an American film by David Wark Griffith from 1909. It is based on Frank Norris ' socially critical novel The Pit .
The Wheat King is an early example of the parallel montage established by Griffith as a narrative medium , with the help of which he depicts on the one hand the wealth of the stock market speculators and on the other hand the plight of the people who can no longer afford their daily bread due to speculation.
The Wheat King was included in the National Film Registry in 1994 as Griffith's first short film .
