Oyayubi Island ( Japanese 親 指 池 Oyayubi-jima , German 'Thumb Island' ) is an island off the Prince Harald coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located 3 km south of Mount Chōtō immediately in front of the Langhovde group of hills in the eastern part of the Lützow-Holm Bay .
Surveys and aerial photographs of the Japanese Antarctic expedition, which was carried out from 1957 to 1962, were used to map them. The name given by Japanese scientists in 1972 based on that of Oyayubi Point , the southern headland of the island, was translated into English by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 1975.
