Ozie Ware , nee Ozie McPherson , (* 1903 ; † 1983 ) was an American singer ( soprano ). She was mainly active in the field of blues and swing from 1920 to 1929 . She also used the pseudonyms Eva Woods , Jane Bartlett and Eliza Brown and Liza Brown, respectively .

Career

Ozie Ware, wife of the entertainer Sonnie Ware († 1984), was born under the name McPherson. In the 1920s she worked as a blues soprano, including with the Black Swan label under the pseudonym Jane Bartlett . Under the name McPherson she took on the Stonetone Records, later sub-label with the Paramount Records, also records. As a vocalist she took part in recordings of the Duke Ellington Orchestra in October 1928 ("Oh Papa No!" And " Diga Diga Doo " in a duo with Irving Mills ). In the same month she recorded for Victor Records with Duke Ellington in a small cast ("Santa Claus, Bring My Man Back to Me," with Arthur Whetsol , Barney Bigard , Billy Taylor , Sonny Greer ). She was accompanied by the Ellington Band (under the alias Whoopee Makers ) on "It's All Coming Home to You" (Cameo 9039) and "He Just Don't Appeal to Me" (Cameo 9042) . Ware died in 1983.
