Pádraig [ ˈpɑːdrɪg ], also written Pádhraig , Pádraic or Pádhraic , is an Irish (Gaelic) male given name . In English , the first name Patrick corresponds to him .

It is derived from the Latin first name Patricius and owes its popularity in Ireland to Saint Patricius ("Patrick of Ireland", Irish Naomh Pádraig ; † in the 5th century), the patron and national saint of the country. As a baptismal name Pádraig or Patrick is common in Ireland since the 13th century.

A common short form or nickname is páidín , which in turn corresponds to the form paddy in English .
