Pål Mathiesen (born August 14, 1977 in Bærum ) is a Norwegian singer . He is a member of the Chrome Division and was previously a member of Susperia and Vanaheim .

Career

Mathiesen belonged in the late 1990s to the Viking metal band Vanaheim, with whom he released an EP and a studio album. During the Wacken Open Air in 1999 he met the former Dimmu Borgir drummer Tjodalv , who was looking for musicians for a new band. Mathiesen offered himself as a singer and was part of the band Susperia until 2015 under the pseudonym Athera .

On the morning of March 9th, 2009 singer Athera was admitted to Akershus Universitetssykehus in Lørenskog after a heart attack . Three narrowed arteries and three heart valves had to be replaced in the course of a triple bypass operation . Because of further complications, an open heart operation had to be performed at Rikshospitalet in Oslo. In May 2015 he left Susperia for health reasons.

At the end of 2010 Mathiesen joined the band Chrome Division. Under the pseudonym Shady Blue , he succeeded Eddie Guz. Mathiesen made his debut on the album 3rd Round Knockout .

Since 2013 he has been the live singer of the black metal band Borknagar with interruptions .
