Père Marie-Benoît
Father Marie-Benoît Péteul (born as Piere Péteul , born March 30, 1895 in Le Bourg-d'Iré , Maine-et-Loire department , † February 5, 1990 ) was a French Capuchin . The religious priest became known not only by his religious name but also as Père des juifs ("Father of the Jews").
During the Second World War he helped about 4,000 Jews from southern France to flee to Spain, Switzerland and Italy. He later became a member or president of the Jewish welfare organization DELASEM ( Delegazione per l'Assistenta degli Emigranti Ebrei ). As the savior of the Jews, he is one of the Righteous Among the Nations and was accepted into the avenue of the righteous at the Yad Vashem memorial .
