Susan Zuccotti

Susan Zuccotti (born November 14, 1940 in Brooklyn ) is an American historian.

Life

Susan Sessions married New York real estate developer John Zuccotti (1937–2015). Zuccotti studied history and received a PhD in modern European history from Columbia University . Her research focus is Italian history during World War II and the Holocaust . She taught at Barnard College and Trinity College . Zuccotti's books have won the National Jewish Book Award . In 1987 she received the Italian Premio Acqui Storia - primo lavoro for L'Olocausto in Italia and in 2002 the “Sybil Halpern Milton Memorial Prize” from the German Studies Association for the book Under His Very Windows .

Zuccotti did research in particular on the deportation of Roman Jews and in 2000, in her research work Under His Very Windows, came to an extremely critical assessment of Pope Pius XII's attitude . Their contributions have been vehemently rejected by the Vatican and some historians. On the now presented evidence of active rescue work of Pius XII. In 2004 it went into an essay in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and came to the conclusion that no papal directive was issued to save Jews in Italy (German: "There was no papal order to save Jews in Italy.") . In 2013 Zuccotti published a book about the Capuchin and Savior Père Marie-Benoît .
