Péter Kovács (art historian)

Péter Kovács (born February 9, 1939 in Budapest , Hungary ) is a Hungarian art historian .

Live and act

Péter Kovács is the son of Barnabás Kovács († 1971) and Veronika "Erika" born. Pilinszky (1919–1975), the sister of János Pilinszky .

From 1957 to 1962 he studied art history at the Faculty of Humanities at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. From 1962 he was a research assistant at the "Szent István Király Múzeum" in Székesfehérvár . From 1986 to 1992 he was its director, from 1992 to 2001 he was a senior consultant.

In addition to his art-historical work, in particular on sculpture from the 18th and 20th centuries, he organized historical and contemporary art exhibitions . From 1986 to 1992 he was the editor of the A Szent István Király Múzeum közleményei series.

From 1977 to 1980 he was Vice President of the Hungarian Association of Fine and Applied Artists (Magyar Képzőművészek és Iparművészek Szövetsége). Until 1992 he was a member of the Art History Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .

In 2006, Péter Kovács published an autobiography under the title Törmelék (German rubble ), which also describes memories of the Pilinszky family.
