Péter Várhidi

Péter Várhidi (born May 8, 1958 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian football player and coach . From 2006 to 2008 he was the coach of the Hungarian national football team . He is the son of Ujpest-TE club player Pál Várhidi .

Peter Várhidi was a player at Újpest Dózsa , Ganz-Mavag, Domsöd and the Budapest VSC .

He worked as a coach from 1992 at BVSC , from 1994 at Újpest FC , 1995 at MTK , later at Székesfehérvár and Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC .

From 2006 he was the Hungarian national coach of the U21s. In the same year he was the successor of Péter Bozsik coach of the national team. Despite an embarrassing defeat in the European Championship qualification against Malta , Várhidi's contract was extended by one year in January 2007. Hungary had no chance in qualifying for the final round of the European Football Championship in 2008 . Várhidi was relieved of his duties as national coach in April 2008 and replaced by Erwin Koeman from the Netherlands .

In 2009 he had engagements with the lower-class Budapesti EAC and the second division side Szigetszentmiklósi TK . At the end of 2009 he took over the coaching position at the second division club Pécsi Mecsek FC .
