The Pögritzmühle is a listed mill in the Wettin district of the city of Wettin-Löbejün in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the mill is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 55446 .

history

A Pögritzmühle, a water mill , is documented in the possession of the provost Ekkehard von Petersberg and since there is only one known Pögritzmühle in Wettin, the mill location is more than 850 years old. The watermill was owned by the Augustinian Canons on Petersberg until it was closed in 1543. After that, the water mill was given as a fief by the Wettins . From the middle of the 16th century, Aus dem Winkel, Countess of Marode from 1794 to 1803 and Prince Christian Friedrich of Prussia from 1803 to 1813 are known as owners or feudal bearers. The mill in its current form was essentially created in its appearance as an industrial mill from 1904 to 1907 and was shut down in 1991. Today the mill is still used to generate energy, and the former storerooms are used as exhibition rooms for a cultural association.

According to a report from 1749, there was a second mill in Wettin, but it was abandoned because the brook dried up due to mining .

Naming

The name of the mill probably does not come from a desert , but the name derives from the Sorbian Podegroditz, which means under the castle (see Lower Sorbian pód = 'under', grod = "castle"). It is said to be a suburb that emerged from the castle and is documented until the 18th century.
