Potsangbam Renedy Singh mostly just Renedy Singh (born June 20, 1979 in Imphal ) is an Indian soccer player . He currently plays with the East Bengal Club and on the Indian national team .
Career
The two-footed midfielder started his professional career in 1997 when he moved from Tata Football Academy to the East Bengal Club in Calcutta . With the club Renedy Singh was Indian runner-up in 1998 behind arch rivals Mohun Bagan AC and again runner-up in the following season, this time the Salgaocar Sports Club had the better end for themselves. In 2000, he was one of the few players in India who dared to switch to direct city rivals and reigning champions Mohun Bagan. With the West Bengal, Singh won the final of the Indian Federation Cup 2-0 against Dempo SC in 2001 and in 2002 won the National Football League championship . In 2004 the midfielder surprisingly moved to the second Indian division to EverReady SA (renamed Chirag United SC in 2006 ), where they qualified for the promotion round to the top tier, but failed in the playoff games. Thereupon Renedy Singh decided to change again, he played for JCT Mills FC for three years and reached with the club in the Indian league two years in a row with second and third place respectable final placements. In 2008 he returned to his first club, East Bengal FC, and again won the Federation Cup with the club in 2009.
Renedy Singh is widely recognized as one of the best midfielders in the country and a dangerous free kick taker. In 1998 he made his debut in the Indian national soccer team . He is now the leading player and vice-captain of the national team with which he won the Nehru Cup in 2007 and 2009 and was also the winner of the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008 , which enabled India to qualify for the Asian Cup (2011) for the first time in 24 years.
