The Antlia dwarf galaxy (catalog number PGC 29194 ) is an elliptical dwarf galaxy (type dE3) in the constellation Air Pump . The galaxy, measuring only 5500 light years in diameter, has an angular extent of 2.0 × 1.5 arc minutes and is one of the most distant members of the Local Group at a distance of about 4.6 million light years . With a brightness of only 14.8 mag , this galaxy cannot be seen with smaller telescopes.
The Antlia dwarf galaxy was discovered in 1985 by Harold G. Corwin , Gérard H. de Vaucouleurs, and Antoinette de Vaucouleurs . However, it was not until 1997 that a report published their possible membership in the local group.
