The ED59 series of Polish State Railways (PKP) consisting of a single three-part electrical trainset .

In 2005, PESA in ( Bydgoszcz ) built an electric multiple unit for PKP local traffic with a top speed of 160 km / h. Three-part (type 15WE) and four-part multiple units (type 16WE) were planned, the car parts of which are connected by Jakobs bogies .

In April 2006 a prototype in four-part design was completed on behalf of the Łódź Voivodeship and named ED74-01. During a test drive on April 28, 2006, it reached a speed of 175 km / h.

For the handover to PKP Przewozy Regionalne in May 2006, the railcar was shortened by an intermediate car and designated as ED59-01. At the same time, the top speed was reduced to 140 km / h. Since then, it has been based in Łódź and operates as a passenger train between Łódź, Skierniewice and Kutno .

Series production of the ED59 series is not planned. Instead, the four-part version with a modified head shape is procured as the ED74 series .
