PKP series MBxd1
In the series MBxd1 the preconceived Polish State Railways four-axle narrow gauge - railcar with diesel engine together.
Definition of the type designation
In 1960, the PKP introduced a designation system for narrow-gauge vehicles that encoded the essential features of the vehicle in the designation instead of the series designations customary for standard- gauge vehicles and narrow-gauge steam locomotives . These abbreviations were usually used instead of a series designation and are also indispensable for the unique identification of a vehicle, since railcars and diesel locomotives were numbered in parallel. Nevertheless, the type MBxd1 includes multiple units of different years and shapes and the gauges 750 mm and 1000 mm.
The individual letters of the designation MBxd1 stand for
- M: Narrow gauge railcar (motorowy)
- B: second class
- x: four axes
- d: high pressure internal combustion engine ( diesel engine )
- 1: mechanical power transmission
Overview of the type MBxd1 railcars
Some of the MBxd1 railcars came from German and Polish private railways. These vehicles were only named MBxd1 from 1960.
