The DR 137 322 to 325 were diesel multiple units of the Deutsche Reichsbahn for the narrow-gauge railways in Saxony . The four vehicles supplied were used from 1938 on the Zittau – Kurort Oybin / Kurort Jonsdorf and Zittau – Hermsdorf routes in Upper Lusatia .

history

In 1938, Busch in Bautzen built four prototypes of narrow-gauge diesel multiple units for the Saxon narrow-gauge railways . The modern vehicles were designed for a top speed of 60 km / h. Shortly after acceptance, the maximum speed was limited to 45 km / h, as the railcars then commuted too much. The cars also had multiple controls for driving in multiple traction .

Initially, the vehicles were painted completely burgundy. On the occasion of a special event, 137 322 was restored to its state around 1950 in 2015.

From then on, the railcars were used on the narrow-gauge railways departing from Zittau. The vehicles proved their worth, only the outbreak of the Second World War on September 1, 1939 prevented the procurement of further vehicles because the fuel was needed for the Wehrmacht and the railcars had to be parked. It is still unclear whether appropriate sidecars were also procured for the railcars, as eyewitnesses claim. After 1945, the only railcar that remained in Zittau was 137 322, as it derailed and damaged during a loading operation in 1943. After the war, the railcar was used again. Since the car could only be used by itself, three passenger cars were converted into sidecars. The railcar could only carry one sidecar uphill.

In 1964 the vehicle was parked in the Bertsdorf locomotive shed after an engine failure, but was not taken out of service. In 1980, the vehicle that had been placed on the z-site came into the holdings of the Dresden Transport Museum .

In 1995, the Dresden Transport Museum and the Zittauer Schmalspurbahnen interest group signed a long-term maintenance and usage agreement. The railcar, which was partially dismantled at that time, was restored to a rolling condition that was worth visiting by the interest group. The contract was passed on to the Saxon-Upper Lusatian Railway Company (SOEG) for further processing .

In 2006 and 2007, the railcar was reconditioned through donations. Problems were caused by the completely worn out drive system; For example, the cylinder heads for the Vomag diesel engine that was still original had to be completely rebuilt. Since the work on reconditioning the engine and the gearbox was beyond the SOEG's financial framework, an exchange version with the MAN D 2866 UH engine and a differential converter gearbox had to be used in order to restore the vehicle to working order.

On August 11, 2007, the vehicle was used as scheduled in passenger train services for the first time in over 40 years. Since then, the railcar has been running regularly on weekends. In the 2015/2016 timetable, it is used twice a month on Sundays from May to October.

The motor coaches 137 323 to 325 came into the inventory of the Polish State Railways (PKP) in 1945 and were given the numbers MBxd1  114 to 116. They were initially used on the Bogatyńska Kolej Dojazdowa , those from the part Sieniawka - Bogatynia - Markocice taken over by the PKP the narrow-gauge railway Zittau – Hermsdorf and the former coal railway Reichenau was formed. After the Bogatyńska Kolej Dojazdowa was closed in 1961, they came to the Wrocławska Kolej Dojazdowa and were retired there in the 1970s.

Vehicle 137 322 was given an additional red sticker for Historik Mobil 2015, based on the original red paintwork of the railcars at the time of delivery. The stickers have been removed again in the meantime.
