The Mae Nam Pa Sak ( Thai : แม่น้ำ ป่า สัก ; or just Pa Sak , also written Pasak ) is a river in northern central Thailand . It is a tributary of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ).
The river rises in the province of Loei in the district ( Amphoe ) Dan Sai and ends together with the Mae Nam Lop Buri near Ayutthaya . The Pa Sak has a length of 513 km and drains an area of 18,000 km². The annual runoff is around 2.4 km³.
The Pa Sak valley forms the main part of the Phetchabun Mountains in Phetchabun Province . Since the catchment area of the river is quite narrow, the amount of water in the river changes seasonally very strongly, which has an unfavorable effect on the area's irrigation conditions. In 1994 and in the following years, the Pa-Sak-Chonlasit Dam (Thai: เขื่อน ป่า สัก ชล สิทธ ) was built in the province of Lop Buri , which acts as a compensation reservoir.
